Annual Meeting

May 22 and 23, 2004

SATURDAY, May 22nd

11:00 - 12:00 p.m. Small Group Genealogy Sessions.
Are you interested in meeting and discussing genealogy with relatives from your branch of the family? Let us know on the registration form and we will facilitate such a meeting by providing a room and designating an initial convener. A coordinator will contact those interested as we approach the meeting. Your "branch" is determined by which of Mr. Jefferson's grandchildren you are descended from as indicated by the first two digits of your own number in the genealogical table at the end of The Collected Papers Volume II, more specifically 11 for descendants of Anne Cary Randolph (e.g. Bankhead, Carter); 12 for descendants of Thomas Jefferson Randolph (e.g. Randolph, Taylor, Ruffin, Harrison, Mason, Kean); 14 for Ellen Wayles Randolph (e.g. Coolidge); 16 for Virginia Jefferson Randolph (e.g. Trist, Burke); 19 for Bejamin Franklin Randolph (e.g Hubard, Randolph); and 42 for Francis Eppes (e.g. Eppes, Craig, Shine).

2:00 - 4:00 p.m. History Panel and Tour at the Jefferson Library
The Thomas Jefferson Foundation presents a panel of short (non-controversial) talks, "Jefferson, Lewis and Clark, and the Indian Hall at Monticello" by Elizabeth Chew, PhD, Associate Curator of Collections, and "Martha Jefferson Randolph and her Daughters:Domesticity and Hospitality at Monticello," by Susan Stein, Curator, followed by a tour of the Jefferson Library.

DIRECTIONS
The library is on Kenwood which is located on Route 53, approximately 1/4 mile east of the entrance to Monticello.

6:00 p.m. Open House and Reception at Monticello
Members and their guests gather at Monticello for the reception, for greeting old friends and for the magnificent view from the mountaintop. Upon arrival, please park in the visitors parking lot for shuttle service to the reception. Please do not arrive before 6:00 p.m. to avoid interfering with the normal tourist traffic. The staff of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation will provide informal tours of the House. Docents will be stationed in each room to answer your questions. Please be aware that tours will end at 7:30 p.m. and we are invited until twilight. Refreshments will be served on the North Terrace during this time. There is no smoking allowed in the house.

DIRECTIONS FROM INTERSTATE 64
From Interstate 64, take exit 121 (if traveling westbound) or 121A (eastbound) to Route 20 South (if traveling westbound, turn south, or left, on Route 20). To go to Monticello, turn left on Route 53, just after the first stoplight. The entrance to Monticello is located on the left, approximately one and a half miles from Route 20. You will pass Michie Tavern on the way.

8:00 p.m. Post Reception Dinner at the Michie Tavern
Continue your conversation over Michie Tavern's house specialty - fried chicken - with a variety of vegetables, beverages and desert.

SUNDAY, May 23rd

10:30 a.m. Service at the Monticello Graveyard
Association members and their guests will assemble at the family graveyard to place flowers on the graves and to pay tribute to Mr. Jefferson. The early start time will allow us to complete our business meeting and accomodate those with afternoon flights. Please keep in mind that this is a graveyard, and that all of the residents of the graveyard should be shown proper respect. Please minimize as much as possible walking, sitting, or standing on the graves.

DIRECTIONS FROM THE PARKING LOT
Proceed up the hill past the house. There is a dirt road after the entrance. Follow the road as it winds around the house to your left. Turn left onto service road. Watch for entrance for the meadow behind the graveyard. Monticello staff will be on hand to direct traffic.
